The Flip side is a blog written by writer, presenter, broadcaster and muesli maker Flip Shelton, on all things food, health and nutrition. (And maybe occasionally some other unassociated topics!)
I have had two cookbooks published. Green – Modern Vegetarian was published in 2002 by Hardie Grant and sold out. Veg In, published in May 2011 by Wakefield Press, has just won Best Australian Vegetarian cookbook as awarded by the 2011 Worldwide Gourmand Cookbook Awards. For more information about this please visit www.flipsmuesli.com.au/vegin.html.
I am currently working on another cookbook and a couple of books for kids with a foody theme.
I have talked and written about food and fitness for over 15 years in major metropolian newspapers, glossy and sports mags as well as presenting regular segments on Good Morning Australia, Surprise Chef, Huey’s Cooking Adventures and radio throughout Australia.
When I couldn’t find a muesli I liked on the supermarket shelves, I launched my own – Flip Shelton’s natural muesli – in 2003 and now have five gourmet blends including one that’s gluten free and a five grain porridge. FSNM uses the best ingredients available. Australian ingredients are always used over imported ingredients however in Australia we dont have Brazil trees so I use the best I can find from overseas.
At that time I was competing in Ironman events (3.8km swim, 180km bike and 42km run) and needed a delicious breakfast which was nutritionally dense but didn’t weigh me down. I created ‘the one that’s gluten-free’ for my husband and two god-children who are Coeliac but it’s enjoyed by non-Coeliacs too – and it’s now my most popular blend.
I love discovering new foods, cooking and of course eating and talking about food. Food feeds us, nurtures us and creates some of the best memories by bringing people together.
I hope you will be part of this gastronomic journey on The Flip Side.
See you in the soup!
